Top Museums in Tennessee

Depending on the time of the day, driving to Memphis Tennessee from Virginia takes approximately 13 hours. Assuming you never stop and your gas tank can hold up to that point. The best thing about the route is the absence of toll roads. Since we planned out the Top Museums in Tennessee to visit, we knew all of our stops.

We left Bealeton, Virginia around midnight. The goal was to get to Nashville and explore a few areas before heading to Memphis. The top museums in Tennessee that we wanted to visit included the Country Music Hall of Fame, The Tennessee State Museum, National Civil Rights Museum and Graceland. Once we arrived in Nashville, we took a quick stroll at Riverfront Park before the visit to two of the top museums in Tennessee

RIVERFRONT PARK

Riverfront park had many amazing restaurants and activities going on at the time of arrival. We strolled through the streets to interact with some locals. We asked some questions about their town and what they like about it.

Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum

If you are a fan of country music, this place is a must-visit. The Country Music Hall of fame and Museum is one of the main attractions in Nashville, and it does not disappoint. There were many artifacts on display. You don’t have to be a country music fan to enjoy your time at the museum. There is something for everyone. My husband even commented on how it provided a new appreciation for country music. Tickets for general admission can be purchased here.

TENNESSEE STATE MUSEUM

The Tennessee State Museum was incredible. They have so many different exhibitions, and you need about 5 hours to go through everything thoroughly

Since we didn’t have much time and wanted to make it to the next destination in Memphis on the same day, we had to wrap up quickly. We spent about an hour at the state museum.

The cost of admission for the Tennessee State Museum was $0. Therefore, it didn’t matter to us the time spent. For a free museum, it was amazing to see the number of exhibitions it had. We learned about the culture and history.

NATIONAL CIVIL RIGHTS MUSEUM

After leaving Nashville, we drove 3 hours non-stop to Memphis. We left Nashville around noon. Our goal was to make it to the National Civil rights museum on time. Unlike the Tennessee State Museum, there is a 17 dollar fee for adults at the museum. More details about the admission for different age groups are listed here.

National Civil Rights Museum

The national civil rights museum is full of history. It provides insights into the fight for equality for African Americans. We saw the room and the balcony where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr stood before his death. The visit was very interactive. I was both sad and encouraged at the same time

The museum used to be called The Lorraine motel. My husband and I always wanted to visit the Civil Rights Museum. It was everything that we expected it to be and more. We learned about many other things. The museum is very well put together and informative. If you are ever in Memphis, you must visit the civil rights museum

Graceland

Since Graceland was only 15 minutes from the National Civil rights Museum, we drove there quickly. We knew our day was busy, thus we could only visit the external of Graceland (The home of Elvis Presley). You can see the outside of the beautiful mansion, walk around and take pictures. However, you cannot see the inside without the admission ticket. You can find more information here. We are planning on visiting Memphis soon to visit the inside of Graceland. We also plan to visit some other top museums in Tennessee.

As usual, do not forget to subscribe and share!
