New Orleans had always been a place on our list, so we couldn’t embark on a road trip without visiting. After a long day of visiting multiple museums in Tennessee, we drove from Memphis to New Orleans for the perfect two nights stay. The perfect two nights in New Orleans couldn’t start before stopping in Mississippi for a quick photo.

First Night

We arrived in New Orleans around 11 pm. Since it was before midnight, and we didn’t want to waste time, we got to exploring right away. As you read along, remember our goal was to have fun and explore many places while spending less.

New Orleans has so much culture, history, and art. You can’t go wrong with whatever you choose to do in this city. Our first night, we took a stroll at the Woldenberg Riverfront Park, and we watched ships ply the Mississippi River. We were tired after the long drive from Virginia, so we just sat, relaxed, and enjoyed the scenery.

First Full Day

Thankfully, our hotel had free breakfast, so we got up early to eat and headed out the door. We had a packed day filled with many places to visit. Every item on our itinerary was free except for one restaurant (ACME) and a visit to Cafe Du Monde. By the way, if you are ever in New Orleans, please check both places. The Chargrilled oysters at ACME are the best in town. We ordered a dozen oysters for $20.99.

Lower 9th Museum

We took the bus and visited the Lower 9TH Ward Museum. Since this small museum is away from all the tourist areas downtown, we figured to do that first before all the other adventures. The museum provides the political, cultural, and social history of the lower ninth ward and highlights the disaster of Hurricane Katrina. It also shows the power of the local organization, helping to redevelop the area. The admission to this museum is always free. You can’t beat this with the opportunity to explore all the history.

Jackson Square New Orleans

After the visit to the museum, we took the bus to the city center. The first place we visited was Jackson Square. Jackson Square is in front of the St Louis Cathedral. Here, we saw so many arts. Artists had their work displayed on the outside of the iron fence. If you choose to do so, they can even draw a portrait of you. While at Jackson square, we went to the Saint Louis Cathedral. This beautiful historic church is open to the public.

Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans

We spent the rest of the day exploring the French Quarter. We went to the famous Cafe Du Monde. If you are ever in New Orleans, Cafe Du Monde is a must-visit. Their beignets are the absolute best! We did window shopping and purchased a few keychains as souvenirs for family and friends. We also visited the Lafayette Cemetery. After a long day filled with activities, we went back to our hotel room to rest a bit and then went to Bourbon Street at night.

Second Night

For Dinner, we went to ACME for oysters. After the oysters at ACME, we strolled on Bourbon St. On Bourbon St, you are liable to see just about anything. It’s an experience to witness all the things going on there. You will bump into people from all walks of life. We went from one shop to the other, and each had its own experience. It was fun seeing so much live music. Bourbon St is a wild place where people let loose and have fun. Make sure to beware of your surroundings. There is a lot of police activity which can provide some peace of mind.

After a long day of activities, we headed back to our hotel. We slept for about 7 hours, and we were on the road again the next morning. Our next stop was in Texas! Subscribe below to read our next post about all the adventures in Texas.
