HOUSTON, WE GOT A PROBLEM

Amid all the coronavirus news, we must find a way to continue to live and achieve our travel goals. This week has been rough! I usually work from home a few days a week. However, working 5 days in a row with the kids at home was very challenging. I am glad that it ended because I get to share with you the experience we had in Texas during our cross country road trip. Do you remember the perfect two nights we spent in New Orleans? Well, it looks like Houston, we have a problem.

After a long night on Bourbon St, we headed back to our hotel for a few hours of sleep and then drove during the wee hours of the next morning to Houston, Texas. It only took about 4 hours to get to Texas. We planned on visiting a friend before our visit to the Space Center in Houston. Luckily, our friend prepared breakfast for us.

HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM

A Visit to the Space Center in Houston is a must if you find yourself in Texas. If you are a Space enthusiast like my husband, then this is an ultimate attraction. We purchased the tickets to tour beforehand to avoid any unnecessary delays. Tickets can be purchased here. The Space Center in Houston is a great place to spend the entire day, especially if you have kids. Since this was a part of our long cross country road trip, we planned to spend only a few hours here.

I recommend the astronaut, training facility tram tour when you visit. There were so many displays in the main hall, and the tram tour provided many fascinating details. We were particularly amazed by the sheer size of the rockets when we stood next to them. If you ever find yourself in Houston, I highly recommend it, because of all the educational displays. Also, make sure you eat before the visit. I say this because of the high price of meals at the food court.

Dallas Cowboy Stadium

After about 3 hours at the Space Center in Houston, we drove to visit another friend, and from there, we drove to Dallas. My husband is a huge Dallas Cowboy fan (Go Cowboys!). So, a visit to Texas is incomplete without visiting the AT&T stadium. We purchased the ticket for 2 for 13 dollars.

Because we visited one of my friends in Houston, it delayed our trip to Dallas for about an hour. Unfortunately, on our way to Dallas, we ran into traffic, and by the time we arrived in Dallas, the stadium was closed for the locker room tour, etc. To this date, my husband blames me, because if I had not visited my friend, we would not have missed the stadium tour. In his defense, he was right because that visit was not part of the itinerary. Houston we do have a problem.

Even though we arrived at the stadium too late for the tour, we still walked around and took some photos. As you can see in the picture below, he was not happy. After a long day, we went to our hotel for the night to rest for the long day ahead.

Cadillac Ranch-Amarillo

The next day en route to NM, and AZ, we had to do a quick stop at Amarillo, Texas, to visit the Cadillac Ranch. The Cadillac Ranch is an installation of graffiti-decorated cars, partly buried in a field. If you like to spray paint, this is must-see, especially if you are driving on route 66. It’s worth the stop to stretch your legs to see this beautiful colorful art display.

  1. We are driving from SE Georgia to Santa Fe next year. MIght have to detour down to Houston for a quick visit to the Space Center. Great post.

  2. I have been to the Space Center before and through the pictures, it really hasn’t changed. It is a really nice place to visit. You are right about eating before coming, lol. The meals were just overpriced. Thanks for sharing your amazing experience
